About ICNA
The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), established in 1968, is a grassroots Muslim organization dedicated to fostering Islamic values through education, community service, and social justice initiatives. Founded to address the needs of a growing Muslim population in North America, ICNA initially focused on religious education and spiritual development, later expanding into broader societal engagement. Over the decades, it has grown into a multifaceted organization with programs spanning youth development, interfaith collaboration, humanitarian relief, and advocacy for marginalized communities. Its mission emphasizes inclusivity, empowerment, and fostering a sense of belonging among Muslims while contributing to the common good of society at large.
ICNA plays a vital role in society through its commitment to social justice and humanitarian efforts. The ICNA Council for Social Justice (CSJ), established in 2009, advocates for civil liberties, criminal justice reform, and equitable resource distribution, guided by Quranic principles of justice and equality. The organization’s relief arm, ICNA Relief, provides critical aid to families affected by crises, including food insecurity and natural disasters, both locally and globally.
Additionally, ICNA’s interfaith work bridges communities through dialogues, partnerships with churches, synagogues, and temples, and events like its annual convention, which attracts over 30,000 attendees from diverse backgrounds to discuss unity and shared ethical values. These initiatives reflect ICNA’s belief in collaboration to address societal challenges and promote mutual understanding.
ICNA’s emphasis on shared humanity and collective action stands out. The organization actively engages in interfaith programs to dismantle misconceptions about Islam and highlight its contributions to social harmony. For instance, ICNA Sisters empowers women through education and civic engagement, while initiatives like WhyIslam provide platforms for open discussions about Islamic teachings. By aligning its efforts with universal values - such as justice, compassion, and community resilience - ICNA demonstrates how faith-based organizations can serve as catalysts for positive change, fostering a society where diverse voices collaborate for the greater good.
About ICNA Harrisburg
We, at the Harrisburg chapter of ICNA, fully embody the goals of the parent organization and do our best to help our local communities, regardless of their faith. In that regard,
- We conduct a yearly Back-2-School drive where we hand out the educational amenities to the needy in our local communities. Easily some 250+ families benefit from this service on an annual basis.
- We partner with a local free medical clinic (AIM Free Clinic) that opens its doors every month to help treat those who couldn't afford the medical cost otherwise. Some 30+ individuals benefit from this service monthly and the numbers keep growing.
- We partnered with local Mosques to conduct the vaccination drive during the COVID pandemic peak and the turnout was quite large. We helped educate the communities about the need to prevent the spread of the virus at that time.
- We organize events to raise funds whenever and wherever a disaster strikes and are proud to generate enough funds to support some major disasters. We partnered with various relief organizations including ICNA Relief, Helping Hand, etc.
- During the election periods, we help educate the community about the need to exercise their civic duty and participate in the electoral process and helped drive those who couldn't get to the polling stations otherwise.
- We visited local churches with our families to encourage interfaith dialogue and communal harmony.
- We partnered with local Muslim dentists to kickstart and conduct free dental clinic to those who can't afford dental checkups and the costs associated with it. Easily saw some 200+ patients during those day-long drives.
- We conducted Feed-The-Hungry programs to extend soup kitchens to those who are struggling in our local communities.
- And, many, many more...
